26/03/2008
bmibaby announced on Thursday (March 20th) that it was celebrating six years of flying from East Midlands Airport.
The milestone coincided with the busy Easter bank holiday period, as bmibaby expected to handle over 30,000 passengers to and from the Midlands over the weekend.
The low-cost airline began services at East Midlands Airport on March 20th 2002, with one aircraft flying to Malaga.
bmibaby now offers a choice of 15 European destinations from the airport.
Caroline Plant, director of marketing and communications for East Midlands Airport, commented: "Since bmibaby launched at East Midlands Airport in 2002 they have enjoyed incredible success.
"The demand for air travel in the Midlands region has since grown significantly, and bmibaby's plans are indicative of this success. bmibaby's growth continues in 2008 with the introduction of new routes to Nice, Gdansk and Warsaw, offering a broader choice for the region's travellers.
"We are confident the past six years of success will continue."
