Humberside Airport to get technology boost

Humberside Airport to get technology boostHumberside is one of four British airports that will benefit from a new three-year contract handed to Thales UK by the Manchester Airport Group (MAG) which will provide the technology for its airfield and aviation related services.

Thales UK - a large electronic and systems firm - employs 150 people at its Cheshire site in the north-west of England and has been given a two-year extension option on the deal.

The company will also provide and improve systems for Bournemouth, East Midlands and Manchester Airports which, when combined with Humberside, handles 22 million passengers every year flying to over 200 destinations.

Managing director of Thales UK's air systems business Steve Hill said: "This contract reinforces our position in the regional airports market, enabling us to build on the good working relationships developed in the past with Manchester Airport."

The company provides jobs for 9,000 people nationally and its client list includes other transport related businesses such as Network Rail, power supplier British Energy and the Royal Navy.
