MoD releases airport UFO reports
24/03/2009
The Ministry of Defence (MoD) has released reports relating to sightings of unidentified flying objects (UFOs) that investigate many of the country's most endearing conspiracy theories.
Various reports were received during the 80s and 90s of inexplicable objects at Britain's airports, many of which have been declassified and are now accessible to the general public through the National Archives.
One such incident occurred at Heaton in August 1990, when a passer-by saw "a round, ball-shaped black speck alternating light and dark" coming from Newcastle Airport and descending towards the coast, the publication states.
Meanwhile, a passenger airplane leaving Heathrow Airport "almost collided" with a UFO in Kent, while US air forces were ordered to shoot down a suspicious object in East Anglia.
Another report came from a Scottish pilot, who saw a strange flying machine that produced an effect "similar to sheet lightening" while flying over the Atlantic.
