Emirates' Newcastle routes booming
Far East airline Emirates has recorded its busiest week at Newcastle Airport since starting its operations in the north-east.
Some 2,600 travellers used the carrier's Newcastle to Dubai service last week, pushing the route to 95 per cent of its capacity, the Journal reports.
The flight has proven popular since it connects the north-east with far-flung destinations such as Malaysia, Mauritius and Thailand.
Speaking to the publication, Emirates northern manager Laurie Berryman said: "We are delighted to say we have had the best period in the route's history at Newcastle Airport.
"We have had ten very good days and the next two months are all up on last year. So, despite all the doom and gloom, it appears we are bucking the trend," Mr Berryman added.
Emirates is the fastest growing international airline and has won over 400 excellence awards, its website states.
