BA to launch Egypt and Maldives routesBritish Airways (BA) has announced plans to launch new flights to Egypt and the Maldives later this year.

From October 25th, the carrier will run three flights per week to Sharm El Sheikh and Male from Gatwick Airport.

The Egypt route is making a welcome return, while the Maldives flight is the first in BA's history.

Richard Tams, BA head of UK and Ireland sales, said: "They are both perfect holiday destinations, known for their great beaches and fantastic diving.

"We're particularly pleased to be serving a completely new destination, the Maldives, and returning to Sharm El Sheikh. We expect both routes to perform well."

The news comes after rival operator Jet2 announced that it too will offer a new service to Sharm El Sheikh from Newcastle Airport.

Set to run once weekly from October 17th, the service will cost £89.99, including tax and charges.
