Ryanair to charge passengers for toilet
04/06/2009
Ryanair has announced that it will charge passengers to use in-flight toilets.
The airline is attempting to save money by making travellers pay £1 per toilet visit, as well as charging for sick bags, after it reported its first losses for 20 years.
Ryanair chief executive Michael O'Leary commented that the carrier may also cut the number of toilets on its Boeing 737 aircraft from three to one.
"We are flying aircraft on an average flight time of one hour around Europe. What the hell do we need three toilets for?" Mr O'Leary said.
"By putting in an extra six seats we can lower fares for everyone," he added.
The company runs flights from several UK airports including East Midlands, Aberdeen and Manchester.
It recently abolished airport check-in desks in favour of online services, which travellers must register with four hours before the scheduled flight time.
