UK airport punctuality increased in first quarter of 2009, CAA statesOver 80 per cent of scheduled flights from the UK were on time during the first three months of 2009, new statistics indicate.

According to the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA), the figure stands 11 per cent higher than the same period last year.

Several airports, including Glasgow, Edinburgh, Birmingham and Manchester, improved the punctuality of their charter and scheduled services.

According to the Daily Mail, the CAA reported: "Improvements were registered at all monitored airports, with the largest gains at Heathrow and London City.

"Heathrow's scheduled on-time performance increased by 20 percentage points in the first quarter of 2009 compared with the first quarter 2008."

It added that the average delayed has halved from 24 minutes to 12 minutes.

Meanwhile, Austrian Airlines is set to shift its operations to terminal one at Heathrow Airport tomorrow, it has been announced.

The carrier states that from June 16th, it will be based at check-in zone K at the London airport's primary terminal.
