Luton to introduce £1 drop-off fee
21/06/2009
Luton Airport will charge drivers £1 to drop off passengers at its terminal from July 1st, it has announced.
Drivers will need to stay with their car for no more than ten minutes, before being charged the fee at the exit barrier.
The airport hopes that the move will encourage more passengers to shun cars in favour of park and go facilities.
Managing director Glyn Jones said: "London Luton Airport remains committed to ensuring all passengers are able to access the terminal in a secure and orderly manner."
Mr Jones added that the changes will ensure the airport "will be better able to manage traffic flows around the terminal".
According to bosses at the travel hub, passenger numbers increased from seven million in 2002 to more than ten million in 2008, causing traffic congestion and access issues.
