Hellenic Imperial Airways to start Birmingham to Athens routeA new flight from Birmingham International Airport to Athens is set to be launched this weekend.

Hellenic Imperial Airways will begin the weekly service today (July 25th), opening up onward connections to Jeddah in Saudi Arabia.
The carrier hopes to increase the frequency of flights in August, depending on the popularity of the route.

Marc Watkins, Birmingham Airport market development manager for aviation, said: "There is a market for Athens in the Midlands and the convenient schedule will suit those flying on business and leisure to both Greece and the Middle East.

"We urge those who would normally travel to other UK airports outside the region to now choose Hellenic from Birmingham to support this new venture."

Hellenic commercial manager Theo Silvestros added that as the main gateway to Mecha, flights to Jeddah could be used by Muslim pilgrims living in the Midlands.

Based in Athens, Hellenic Imperial Airways was incorporated in May 2006 and now serves the Mediterranean, Middle East and beyond, its website states.
