Stansted hotel wins gold award for green initiatives
A hotel at Stansted Airport has won a national certificate for its green initiatives.
The Radisson SAS Hotel has been given a gold rating by the Green Tourism Business Scheme (GTBS) for its low-energy lighting, towel recycling, green meetings and organic food.
The GTBS is the only sustainable certification scheme in the UK that is validated by Visit Britain and rates hotels and tourism businesses using gold, silver and bronze categories.
Jens Hallman, Radisson SAS general manager, said: "The nature of our location means we are particularly under scrutiny to reduce our impact on the environment and with over 200,000 guests passing through our doors every year this is no easy task.
"We are delighted to win this award."
The hotel has also worked hard to reduce its carbon footprint by installing flow restrictors on showers and taps, a move that saves some six litres of water each minute.
Stansted Airport serves around 23 million travellers each year, its website states.
