Immigration officers to strike at UK airports
04/08/2009
Brits planning to travel abroad next week could be affected by union strikes by immigration officers.
Scheduled to take place on August 12th, the 24-hour strike comes after talks between the Public and Commercial Services union (PCS) and the UK Border Agency broke down.
The news could spell delays for travellers leaving or arriving at the UK's airports, including Heathrow, Manchester and Birmingham.
Some 1,200 immigration officers are represented by the union, which claims that officers will be forced to work shift patterns they have not approved.
The union voted 78 per cent in favour of the strike, with a final decision being made on August 11th.
In other airport news, an aircraft was forced to make an unscheduled landing at Dublin Airport yesterday (August 3rd) after colliding with a flock of birds.
The incident occurred after the flight left Birmingham Airport for Derry.
