Some 95,000 passengers will fly to Edinburgh Airport this month (August), an increase of eight per cent compared with 2008 figures.
Budget airline Flybe predicts that the increase will coincide with the famous Edinburgh Fringe Festival, which runs from August 7th to 31st.
The carrier offers 17 routes directly into the Scottish capital, as well as convenient connections to the Orkney and Shetland islands.
Mike Rutter, Flybe chief commercial officer, commented: "People are determined to enjoy a UK summer and by seeking out the most convenient and affordable way to travel especially to the really big annual events such as the Edinburgh Festival."
Flybe is offering 226 flights a day into and around Scotland over the summer period, supported by its Loganair franchise.
Edinburgh Fringe Festival began in 1947 and since then has become a world-renowned event for theatre, arts, comedy and music performances.
