Final talks over Liverpool Airport baggage strikesTalks will be held in an attempt to call off strike action by baggage handlers at Liverpool John Lennon Airport today (August 17th).

Planned by some 150 Servisair employees for this Thursday, the strike could inconvenience thousands of people at the north-west hub if it is not averted, the BBC reports.

GMB union leaders, management and officials will meet today in a "final attempt" to prevent the strike, which was initially planned over redundancies at the airport.

Terry Mellow, spokesman for GMB, commented last week: "GMB members are very angry and have voted overwhelmingly to take action to get these compulsory redundancies withdrawn."

The strike could hit passengers flying with airlines such as KLM, Ryanair, Flybe, Wizz Air and Thomson.

Liverpool Airport flies more than five million passengers to 50 international destinations each year, its website reports.
