Bank holiday strike scheduled at Manchester AirportManchester Airport's ground staff have voted in favour of a strike over the upcoming August bank holiday.

Some 300 baggage handlers, cleaners and refuelling workers will take action as part of the Unite union's drive to improve pay.

Lawrence Chapple-Gill of Unite told Manchester Evening News: "Our intention is not to impact on travellers' plans for going on holiday, but our members who were balloted for strike action are already low-paid and to be told you're not getting anything extra this year is unacceptable."

A spokesperson for Manchester Airport commented that the strike is not expected to cause "major disruption".

In related news, passengers travelling from Liverpool John Lennon Airport this weekend could also face delays as 150 Servisair workers strike on behalf of the GMB union.

The action comes after recent redundancies at the company.

A spokesperson for Ryanair said that travellers could avoid waiting times by not checking luggage into their aircraft's main hold, Click Liverpool reports.
