20/08/2009
Manchester Airport has joined micro-blogging website Twitter, it has been reported.
The travel hub will use the site to offer customers live flight details and run competitions.
Passengers wishing to receive updates of the status of a certain flight can send a direct message to @manairport, while those who refer a friend to follow the airport on Twitter will be entered into a prize draw for holiday vouchers worth £500.
Andrew Harrison, commercial director for Manchester Airport, said: "In the current economic climate people are being much more savvy about how they spend their money but they still see their summer holiday as essential.
"We have created the retail vouchers to help our customers make their hard earned money go much further."
Manchester is the UK's largest regional airport and underwent an £80 million investment ahead of the summer period this year.
In other news, around 300 baggage handlers, cleaners and refuelling workers will take part in a strike at Manchester Airport during the August bank holiday weekend, organised by union Unite over issues relating to pay.
