Ryanair to start eight new winter routes from EdinburghBudget carrier Ryanair has announced that it will commence eight new routes from Edinburgh Airport to Europe this winter.

From October 30th, the airline will offer flights to Brussels Charleroi, Memmingen, Barcelona Girona, Lanzarote Gdansk, Gran Canaria, Oslo and Tenerife.

The company will also extend its summer routes to Malta and Rome into the winter season.

Lesley Kane, Ryanair head of sales and marketing, commented: "Ryanair and Edinburgh today celebrate eight new winter routes and two million passengers per annum.

"To celebrate these new routes and our increased winter schedule for Edinburgh, Ryanair is offering one million £4 seats for travel across Europe in late September, October and November."

According to Ryanair, its passenger volumes sustain 2,000 jobs in Edinburgh and the surrounding areas.

The carrier notes that it will operate 26 routes this winter, a 42 per cent increase on 2008's schedule of 19 routes.

Meanwhile, earlier this week (August 18th) the travel firm announced two new routes from Liverpool John Lennon Airport to Agadir and Bremen, beginning in October.
