EasyJet in talks over Luton landing charges
Low-cost carrier EasyJet could shift its Luton Airport operations elsewhere following talks over landing fees with bosses.
According to the Daily Mail, the airline is refusing to pay higher landing charges and could move to Gatwick or Stansted if the dispute is not resolved.
EasyJet spokesman Andrew McConnell told the news source: "Talks are still continuing between EasyJet and the airport about airport costs and the future growth strategy, which would allow us to invest at the airport to create much needed jobs."
A spokesperson for Luton Airport added that it "maintains a constant dialogue" with all of its airlines.
Figures reported in the Travel Trade Gazette indicate that airport charges already comprise some ten per cent of the average EasyJet air fare from Luton Airport.
Sources state that a rise in landing charges could be passed on to passengers through higher ticket prices.
Around 10.8 million travellers used the air hub in 2008, its website states.
