Jet2 opens routes and new jobs at Newcastle International AirportLow-cost airline Jet2 has announced that it will start five new routes from Newcastle International Airport in summer 2010.

The move will create 100,000 extra seats on flights across the world and 450 new employment opportunities at the company.

Starting at £59.99 one-way, the services will begin in May 2010 and will link the north-east with Dalaman, Crete, Gran Canaria, Paphos and Sharm El Sheikh.

Jet2 boss Philip Meeson commented: "The people [in the north-east] have really embraced Jet2.com and love flying with us.

"The new routes are in response to that demand and the new jobs will also hopefully show our renewed commitment to this great region. We will be working closely with the airport to deliver this enhanced service."

Jet2 has six UK bases and offers routes to more than 90 holiday destinations in 15 countries.

The carrier has been operating for 30 years and does much of its business online, its website notes.
