Millions of Brits to jet off over bank holiday weekend

Millions of Brits to jet off over bank holiday weekendSome 11.9 million Brits will travel over the August bank holiday weekend, statistics indicate.

According to VisitEngland's August bank holiday trip tracker, 80 per cent of those flying will do so domestically, meaning that airports such as Bristol International and Robin Hood could experience an influx of passengers.

The number of foreign trips taken by Brits over the August bank holiday has dropped over the past two years, since only ten per cent chose to stay on home territory in 2007.

James Berresford, chief executive of VisitEngland, said: "We are confident that once people are reminded of what England has to offer, be it a culture-vulture break to one of our great cities; a visit to a seaside resort; or a relaxing rural escape - they will realise England has got everything that overseas breaks can offer and more."

VisitEngland is a strategic leadership body that represents the public and private English tourism sectors.

Bristol International Airport serves more than three million travellers each year, its website records.
