03/09/2009
Low-cost airline SkyEurope has filed for bankruptcy, it has been reported.
The airline has suspended all future flights from Luton and Manchester airports to Bratislava and Prague and is referring customers to similar services offered by easyJet and WizzAir.
Passengers who paid over £100 on their credit cards for flights with the airline can claim the money back from their card company, but other may not be reimbursed.
Anyone who booked flights through a travel agency should take the matter up with them, while those already on holiday must arrange a return flight at their own expense, the SkyEurope website announces.
Mark Tanzer, chief executive at the Travel Association, commented: "This airline failure in a tough economic climate, along with several others last year, highlights the need for urgent action by the government and European Union to plug this gaping hole in customer financial protection."
SkyEurope offered flights to 19 European destinations and served around 3.7 million passengers every year.
