Bmibaby announced eight new flights for East Midlands AirportLow-cost carrier Bmibaby has announced eight new flights taking off from East Midlands Airport.

According to the airline, the expansion involves the use of three new aircraft and increased frequency of existing summer and winter routes.

The company will introduce scheduled services to Cork, Venice, Barcelona, Malta, Dubrovnik, Newquay, Alghero and Bastia between December 2009 and May 2010.

Starting from £9.99 one way, the flights will all end in September or October 2010.

Increased frequency on other flights will see 38 extra services run to Prague, 32 to Alicante and 24 to Faro.

Crawford Rix, bmibaby managing director, said: "Our rapid expansion programme at East Midlands Airport is fantastic news for the Midlands.

"It not only further demonstrates our commitment to the airport, but also to the people of the region, as we continue to offer low fares to a range of exciting new European destinations."

East Midlands Airport managing director Penny Coates added that the move will offer passengers "even greater choice" when flying from the travel hub.

Bmibaby also operates from Aberdeen, Heathrow and Leeds Bradford airports.
