13/09/2009
Thousands of travellers have crossed the border into Scotland in order to get cheap airfares, it has been reported.
A promotional campaign has encouraged passengers to come from as far as Manchester and Cumbria to Glasgow Airport in order to save money on their travel.
Paul White, airline relations manager, commented that the scheme has seen a ten per cent increase in English people using the travel hub.
"Over the past few weeks, we have seen a marked increase in the number of English holidaymakers, with some travelling from as far as Nottingham and even Surrey to take advantage of the fantastic deals on offer from Glasgow," Mr White said.
Glasgow Airport managing director Amanda McMillan added that the campaign will be stepped up in autumn with a view to maintaining the high passenger numbers throughout October.
Ms McMillan added that an upcoming extension of the M74 could also bring people from further afield to the airport.
Around 30 airlines fly from Glasgow Airport to 60 international destinations, its website states.
