Bmibaby announces eight new routes from East Midlands AirportBudget airline bmibaby has announced a new expansion plan at East Midlands Airport.

The carrier hopes to add three aircraft to its East Midlands operations, allowing it to offer eight new routes to Europe and extend the frequency of existing routes.

New destinations will include Alghero, Barcelona, Bastia, Cork, Dubrovnik, Malta, Newquay and Venice and services are expected to begin between December 2009 and May 2010.

The airline expects to serve an extra 350,000 passengers due to the expansion.

Crawford Rix, bmibaby managing director, said: "We are confident that the services will prove extremely popular and we will make sure that everyone who wants to fly can, whether it's for a sunshine holiday, a city break or an important business trip."

Tickets are now on sale on the carrier's website.

The frequency of flights to Prague, Geneva, Malaga, Alicante and Faro will increase by up to 133 per cent.

Bmibaby is currently offering flights from Manchester Airport to Belfast, Amsterdam, Cork, Jersey and Newquay from £2.99 one way, its website states.
