14/09/2009
Passenger numbers at Edinburgh Airport increased notably during August, it has been reported.
According to figures released by BAA, the Scottish hub saw traveller numbers rise by almost five per cent during the holiday period, while Glasgow Airport saw a dip of 13.4 per cent.
Business7 reports that BAA served 14.4 million passengers at its airports during August, a three per cent drop on 2008 figures.
Edinburgh Airport managing director Gordon Dewar told the news source: "From January to August we are now back into growth, the only airport in the UK to report growth so far, which has cancelled out the decline of the first three months.
"For August, Edinburgh also recorded more international passengers than domestic for the first time."
The increase was the fifth consecutive monthly increase at Edinburgh.
Elsewhere, Heathrow Airport recorded its busiest ever August, with passenger numbers up 0.3 per cent to 6.4 million.
