Aer Lingus reveals Gatwick to Vilnius winter serviceBy Jeremy Price.

Aer Lingus has announced a new route from London Gatwick Airport to Vilnius in Lithuania.

The flights are set to start on October 25th and will link London with the European capital of culture 2009.

According to the carrier, it will also launch routes to several other destinations, including Warsaw, Malaga, Vienna, Munich, Dublin and Knock.

Aer Lingus corporate affairs director Enda Corneille said: "For the 42 million Brits who opted for a staycation this summer, these flights will bring back the excitement factor of flying abroad and waving goodbye to the daily grind.

"With a bleak winter predicted, finding something to look forward to during the dark winter moments is vital."

Vilnius is well known for its gothic architecture and natural beauty, Aer Lingus reports.

The airline is currently advertising one-way flights from Gatwick to Eindhoven in the Netherlands.
