Low-cost carrier bmibaby has started a new promotion aimed at encouraging more skiers and snowboarders to use its services.

The airline is now offering free baggage allowance for skis and snowboards from its UK bases to Europe, saving each passenger £17.99.

According to the travel company, Switzerland and the eastern Alps have already seen snow in the past few days.

Passengers will be able to catch flights from East Midlands, Manchester, Birmingham International and Cardiff to European snow destinations such as Malaga, Grenoble and Toulouse from December 19th.

Prices start from £24.99 one-way.

In related news, bmibaby recently announced a massive expansion of its operations at East Midlands Airport.

In a three-pronged development plan, it will add three new aircraft, eight European routes and increased frequencies on existing flights, beginning between December 2009 and May 2010.

New destinations will include Cork, Dubrovnik, Newquay, Bastia and Alghero.
