Bmibaby is number one low-cost option for punctual flights

Low-cost carrier Bmibaby is the UK's number one airline in its class for time performance in 2009.

According to figures from Flight On Time, the airline was the most punctual in the first six months of the year, with almost 85 per cent of its services departing within 15 minutes of their scheduled time.

The average figure for low-cost carriers was 78 per cent.

Bmibaby managing director Crawford Rix said: "Our team work exceptionally hard to ensure our passengers reach their destination on time and we will continue to provide our passengers with a punctual and quality service.

"We are delighted to remain the low-cost leader for on-time performance."

Flight On Time gathered the figures by using data provided by the Civil Aviation Authority.

Meanwhile, yesterday (September 21st) Bmibaby announced it would launch a new service from Cornwall Airport to East Midlands Airport.

The flights are expected to commence on May 28th, departing on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.
