Council 'unhappy with EMA noise reduction'
Under European Union regulation all airports with more than 5,000 departures or arrivals have to draft a Noise Action Plan, detailing how they will minimise the sound of planes.
Mark Todd MP told the Burton Mail that EMA's plan is "poor" and "merely confirms the airport's master plan published three years ago".
He complained that the proposals do not go far enough and fail to provide details of any local accountability.
"Later in this process, should the airport stick to these inadequate proposals, I will be lobbying ministers for a tougher action plan," stated Mr Todd in a letter shown to the Mail.
According to EMA's draft plan people are now more concerned about airport noise than they were 20 years ago.
Those in managerial occupations were most likely to be irritated by the sound of planes taking off and landing, it added.
