Solution sought to Leeds Bradford airport taxi problemsBy James Wilson

Taxis are causing severe congestion in Leeds after a new contract at Leeds Bradford airport with a private taxi firm has prevented many cabs from parking at the airport.

Leeds council is now looking at ways to tackle the growing number of taxis that are clogging up the city's streets, the Yorkshire Evening post reports.

Leeds Bradford airport's private contract means that many taxis can no longer park up outside the airport itself and while this may result in greater car parking space for drivers using the airport, there has been an adverse impact on congestion within Leeds itself.

"We are seeking to provide additional ranks, permanent or temporary at Meadow Lane and Lower Briggate to help the situation and we hope to have these in place by the end of October," Richard Brett, council leader and executive member for taxi licensing, told the newspaper.

Meanwhile, the owner of nearby Robin Hood Airport has revealed it is looking for new investors to buy a stake in the business to help with the development of the airport, the Sheffield Telegraph reports.
