Glasgow airport could shut terminal in winter
By Jeremy Price
Terminal 2 at Glasgow airport could be closed down over the winter months as part of a move to save money, it has been reported.
The airport's operators are looking at a range of measures to help cut costs at the airport, with the plan to shut down the terminal among those under consideration.
Although the decision has not yet been confirmed, closing the terminal during the quieter winter months would help Glasgow airport cut its costs significantly.
Glasgow airport's Terminal 2 building has been used by easyJet since it was established five years ago, with the low-cost carrier flying a wide variety of routes from the airport.
"Like any private business, Glasgow airport must control its costs - particularly during times of recession - so that it remains competitive," airport owner BAA spokesman Donald Morrison told the BBC.
It has also been reported this week that plans for a third runway at Heathrow airport have been put on the backburner.
BAA has said it will not be submitting an application for the runway before the next general election, which many expect to be won by the Conservatives, who have previously opposed the idea of building a new runway at the site.
