Eastern Airways began a new service from Southampton to Durham Tees Valley Airport yesterday (November 2nd).
Aimed at business workers and commuters, the twice-daily weekday service will link the south coast with key industry centres in Middlesbrough, Darlington, Hartlepool, Durham and Stockton on Tees.
Flights will depart from Southampton at 09.10 and 19.20 GMT, arriving in Durham at 10.55 and 21.05 respectively.
Sally Lynskey, chief executive officer of Business Southampton, said: "This broadens the communications to and from the city and underlines the important role that city champion, Southampton Airport, plays in the prosperity of the region.
"This is a great development," she added.
Passengers will have the choice of purchasing a day return in order to save on expenses, while one-way tickets start at £69, including tax and charges.
Easter Airways was founded in Southampton and has been running flights from the city's airport for six years.
The carrier also operates from other UK airports, including Aberdeen, Birmingham, Bristol, Cardiff, East Midlands and Newcastle.
