Finnair extends text check-in to UK airportsBy Jeremy Price.

Passengers travelling from Manchester and London airports with Finnair can now check in via text message, the carrier has revealed.

The company's Finnair Plus members are automatically eligible for the scheme using the number associated with their user profile.

Travellers signed up to the services receive a summary message sent out before their flight, which they can confirm by replying with the letter A.

Passengers need only show a mobile boarding pass, which they are sent in a confirmation text message from the carrier.

Individuals travelling on early morning flights will receive their initial message from the airline between 17:00 and 19:00 GMT the evening before.

Finnair urged customers to ensure their phone handset is internet-ready and able to access their mobile boarding card.

Anyone unable to receive the mobile boarding card should pick up of a paper copy from the check-in desk when arriving at the airport.

Finnair operates from London and Manchester and carried 8.3 million passengers in 2008.
