Aberdeen Airport protesters appear in courtBy Nick Jones.

A group of protesters who allegedly shut down Aberdeen Airport in March have appeared in court.

The five men and four women are alleged to have destroyed property, breached the peace and acted in a disorderly manner on March 3rd after they forced the airport to close briefly.

Daniel Glass, Jonathon Agnew, Mark Andrews, James Kerr, William Boggia, Katherine McKay, Emilia Kawowska, Matilda Gifford and Josephine Hanson all denied the charges in front of Aberdeen Sheriff Court yesterday (November 19th).

The group varies in age from 19 to 43 and will appear in the same court on trial in 2010.

It is claimed that the protesters broke into the airport by cutting the security fence, before some climbed on top of the terminal building to unfurl banners and others picketed a helicopter taxi-way.

The accused are members of campaign group Plane Stupid, it was reported in March.

A total of four incoming flights were cancelled due to the event, while others were delayed between the hours of 02:00 and 09:00 GMT.
