Gap year travellers reminded of hand luggage restrictions
By Jeremy Price.
Gap year students travelling from UK airports such as Liverpool John Lennon and Newcastle this Christmas should ensure they do not attempt to bring barred items onboard their flight, it has been argued.
According to the UK Civil Aviation Authority (CAA), passengers should ensure they are aware of what is permitted on an aeroplane and what is considered dangerous.
Even everyday items such as matches and deodorant cans are off limits, while scissors, corkscrews and syringes are not permitted.
Geoff Leach, manager of the dangerous goods office at the CAA, commented: "While we are all made aware of the security restrictions imposed, people still need to be reminded that some items that are relatively innocuous in everyday use are restricted from carriage on board an aircraft."
Mr Leach added that travellers should therefore display added caution when packing their hand luggage before jetting off for Christmas.
In other news that could interest passengers travelling this Christmas, Ryanair has announced the launch of new flights from its UK bases to Gdansk, Palma de Mallorca, Venice, Faro, Valencia, Rimini, Lodz, Trapani, Tampere and Carcassonne, with the first beginning in February 2010.
