Finnair SMS boarding pass scheme introduced in Manchester and London

By Nick Jones.
Finnair has introduced a text message check-in service for its flights from Manchester and London airports.
The carrier's Plus members can by-pass lengthy queues during the check-in procedure using the new service, allowing them to head straight to their departure gate if they are only travelling with hand luggage.
A digital boarding pass is sent to Finnair Plus members via text message the night before travel and links to a 2D barcode that authorities are able to scan.
Markku Remes of Finnair commented on the initiative: "Our text message check-in service is very popular among our passengers as it speeds up airport formalities.
"Our aim is to incorporate more destinations in our network into this service."
The mobile phone receiving the text message must have access to the internet in order to open the boarding pass.
Customers can update or change their contact number on their online Finnair Plus profile.
The carrier's pilot strike ended on Friday (November 20th), with all flights running according to schedule.
