Glasgow Airport launches consultation on noise and community
By James Wilson.
Glasgow Airport has announced a new consultation on noise insulation and community regeneration.
Airport bosses are considering introducing a 66 decibel contour area around the airport, a move that would bring it up to speed with schemes already in operation at Stansted and Gatwick airports.
The move is designed to reduce the impact the airport has on local residents, as well as setting it up for future sustainable development.
Cash from the airport's new Flightpath fund could also be spent on the community as it sees fit.
Glasgow Airport managing director Amanda McMillan said: "It is vital that we continue to develop the airport and attract new business and employment opportunities.
"However, we must also balance the need for growth against the interests of those who live closest to the airport."
Ms McMillan added that the airport is working closely with community groups, MSPs and MPs to strike a balance between development and residential quality of life.
The airport's terminal two building closed temporarily last month after low-cost carrier easyJet cut its winter schedule.
