Liverpool John Lennon Airport has been decorated for the festive period.

Children from local schools and community groups made snowflakes to hang in the terminal building, while the airport will give a guided tour of the facilities to the creators of the two best designed decorations.

Some 300 snowflakes made by pupils at St Christopher's Catholic Primary School in Speke are now on display and other groups such as the St Helens Youth Band will visit the airport to sing carols, play music and welcome passengers.

Christina Smith, Liverpool John Lennon Airport customer services co-ordinator, commented: "The work that has gone into the display is just amazing and each child has taken a lot of time to make this a great way to celebrate the Christmas period."

She added that the airport often hosts educational trips for school children.

Pupils from St Brigid's Roman Catholic Primary School in Stockbridge and St Vincent's School for the Blind and Partially Sighted in West Derby are also set to make appearances at the airport.

Liverpool Airport is one of the UK's oldest airports, having opened to the public in 1933.
