Newcastle International airport wins two industry accolades in 24 hours
14/12/2009
Two industry accolades have been awarded to Newcastle International airport within the space of just 24 hours, reports the JournalLive.co.uk.
The airport was voted best in the UK by a panel of industry experts at the British Air Transport Association in recognition of having as many as six million passengers pass through each year, while it was also recognised by the Civil Aviation Authority for its punctual flight schedule.
Dave Laws, chief executive of the airport, said he was particularly pleased after a tough year for the aviation industry against the backdrop of the recession.
Mr Laws told the paper: "These awards are decided by the travel industry and to be recognised by your business partners says a lot."
He added that the airport needs all the support it can get in order to ensure local businesses are able to connect effectively with the rest of the region.
In other news, the Conservatives' moratorium on airport expansion might be altered in the wake of a new report suggesting emissions can be kept within acceptable limits with the development of more runways, reports the Guardian.
