Liverpool John Lennon Airport sees passenger numbers rise

Liverpool John Lennon Airport sees passenger numbers riseLiverpool John Lennon Airport has seen a surge in passenger numbers over recent weeks as more people look to take to the skies, it has been reported.

Figures released by the airport reveal that there was an 8.2 per cent increase in passengers coming through the airport during November, the airport's first increase in passenger numbers in over a year, the Liverpool Daily post reports.

"We have got new airlines who weren't here last year - KLM and Eastern Airways, which both appeal to the business market - while Ryanair has kept its capacity and developed one or two new links, and Easyjet has a bigger flying programme," Neil Pakey, deputy chief executive of Peel Airports, told the newspaper.

The number of people travelling through the airport reached 363,421 last month, up by more than 30,000 on the previous year.

Many airports are hoping to see a strong start to 2010, as the global recession eases.

Fewer people chose to fly during 2009 because of fears over the economy, but with increasing optimism that a recovery is on the way, there is hope that more people will decide to fly away over the coming 12 months.
