New service arriving at Heathrow
London Heathrow airport will soon have a new service for people heading to north America, it has been revealed.
Air Canada has announced it is to launch a new service between St. John's, Newfoundland and London Heathrow next summer.
The route will be a non-stop flight running daily from May 27th to September 26th and is the first transatlantic flight offered by Air Canada since 2007.
The company first began scaling back its transatlantic flights in 2006, but scrapped them altogether the following year despite complaints from customers, amid falling passenger numbers.
Announcing the resumption of the service, Air Canada's vice-president of airports Nick Careen said: "We believe our customers in Newfoundland and Labrador will value this direct link to the UK as the fastest and most efficient way of making connections to several European capitals."
The global recession over the past year has had an impact on passenger numbers, but there are growing signs that the market may be starting to improve.
Earlier this week, the Liverpool Daily Post reported Liverpool John Lennon Airport last month enjoyed its first rise in passenger numbers for over a year.
