Cancellations and delays have hit Liverpool John Lennon Airport due to icy conditions and snowfall, it has been reported.
According to the Liverpool Echo, five flights from the hub were cancelled today (December 23rd) after conditions were considered too dangerous for staff to work.
Low-cost carrier easyJet cancelled four flights after it was declared that passengers could not be safely loaded onto the aircraft, while one service to Amsterdam stayed grounded this morning.
A spokesperson for the airport told the newspaper: "When the temperatures dropped last night the entire apron area of the airport froze.
"In the end, [easyJet] made the decision to cancel the flights rather than put passengers through long delays waiting to board."
The airline reported recently that Inverness Airport was shut due to icy conditions, while delays of up to an hour were predicted for flights from Gatwick Airport.
Cancellations and delays also hit Bristol International Airport earlier this week.
