The year of the staycation and short break is over, it has been claimed.
This is because the two-week break will return in 2010, according to research by Hotels.com.
A study by the website found that 71 per cent of Brits think of a long getaway as their must-have expense for next year.
Meanwhile, 81 per cent of respondents are planning a holiday of between ten and 14 days in 2010.
This represents a ten per cent increase on figures from last year.
Alison Couper, director of communications at Hotels.com, said that while many people holidayed at home in 2009, this will change in 2010.
She added: "People see their holiday as a right not a luxury and while they'll still be looking for a great deal, they are determined to get away to enjoy a well deserved break and some sunshine."
The news comes shortly after a study by simonseeks.com revealed that many Brits are planning to travel overseas in 2010.
