Travel firm advises passengers visiting USBy Jeremy Price.

A travel specialist website has released a list of ten top tips for passengers visiting the US.

Due to increased security measures, travellers heading across the Atlantic should arrive at the airport in good time and remain relaxed throughout, Cheapflights advises.

Passengers are reminded that they may only take one piece of hand luggage onto the aircraft, so compact packing is essential.

On top of this, they should ensure that any belated Christmas presents they are taking with them to the US are not wrapped due to the heightened security.

The company also highlights: "New security measures require a pat-down and final bag check of all passengers at the departure gates. Be prepared for this new rule and have your bags open and ready for checking."

Travellers who feel the cold should also wrap up warm in layers, since new limitations state that they must remove everything from their laps during their flight, including blankets and pillows.

Cheapflights was recently named in the Deloitte Technology Fast 500 EMEA 2009 rankings.
