Flights between Glasgow and Lahore in Pakistan will not be scrapped, it has been revealed.
Providing the only direct link between the two countries, the twice-weekly service was defended by Glasgow Central MP Mohammad Sarwar in talks with officials from Pakistan International Airlines (PIA).
The company agreed to make a renewed effort to market the route after Mr Sarwar highlighted its importance to the Pakistani community of 30,000 living in the Glasgow region, the Herald reports.
According to the news source, a spokesperson from Glasgow City Council said: "Our prime responsibility is to the citizens of Glasgow and it is clear that this service to our twin, Lahore, is highly valued by a great many people in this city."
The flight is also deemed important to the airport itself, after it was hit with a reduction of services following the collapse of carrier Flyglobespan.
PIA also offers flights from Glasgow Airport to Gwadar, Hyderabad and Islamabad in Pakistan.
