Passengers sleep at Gatwick as disruptions mountBy Jeremy Price.

Passengers waiting to fly from Gatwick Airport this week have faced the cancellation of hundreds of services.

According to the Daily Mail, many travellers waited over 24 hours at the travel hub to be told they must travel to Birmingham Airport by bus to join replacement services.

Snow and ice led to many carriers cancelling their operations from Gatwick, leaving passengers to sleep at the airport.

"There has been significant disruption to inbound and outbound flights and passengers are advised to contact their airline for the latest flight information ," the airport advised travellers.

The newspaper reports that carriers were unable to find accommodation for all their customers due to a lack of availability, but adds that a flight to Cuba is set to depart from Gatwick this morning (January 8th).

Meanwhile, BBC news reports that inbound flights to Belfast City Airport were disrupted yesterday due to winter weather.

Arrivals were reportedly diverted to other airports after fog covered the airport and made it unsafe for aircraft to land.
