Brits rely on fellow travellers' online reviews, survey indicates
By Jeremy Price.
Brits travelling abroad rely on feedback posted by other passengers online, it has been reported.
According to a survey by Hotels.com, some 79 per cent of passengers often choose a getaway location based on reviews from others who have experienced it themselves, sometimes disregarding the comments of family and friends.
While just ten per cent of individuals taking flights from UK airports such as Leeds-Bradford, Durham Tees Valley and Birmingham rely on a hotel website to book their break, over a third (39 per cent) base their opinions on a guide book or similar publication.
Alison Couper, Hotels.com director of communications, stated: "The ability to read the reviews of other independent travellers who have actually been to a hotel or destination can really help people make up their mind when faced with a mass of options and choices."
Some 40 per cent of British holidaymakers told the website they use newspapers and magazines to learn about potential holiday destinations.
In related news, some 6,000 Ryanair customers were affected by 52 cancelled flights yesterday (January 20th), caused by industrial action by the Irish Aviation Authority.
