BA sends second aid flight to HaitiBy Nick Jones.

British Airways (BA) is set to fly its second aircraft of relief supplies to badly-hit areas of Haiti.

The flight is due to take off from Stansted Airport today (January 22nd), bringing aid from a number of charities such as the Red Cross, Unicef and Oxfam to those affected by the seven-magnitude earthquake that hit the country last week.

Loaded up with as much as 100 tonnes of vital food, blankets and supplies, the Boeing 747 will stop at Billund in Denmark before continuing to the Dominican Republic.

BA chief executive Willie Walsh said: "It is vital that we continue to work with the aid agencies to relieve the suffering of the people of Haiti.

"British Airways is proud to be able to help."

The aircraft will also be loaded with two Toyota Land Cruisers, which will be used to help distribute the charity aid packages.

According to the carrier, the flight was funded by a donation of £300,000 from its Unicef Change For Good programme.

BA recently announced it will increase the number of flights from London City Airport to Edinburgh Airport to seven per day from the end of March.
