London Luton Airport names charity of the year 2010By James Wilson.

London Luton Airport has revealed its airport charity of the year.

Keech Hospice Care has been chosen to receive donations from the airport again after a successful fundraising year in 2009.

Employees generated £26,000 for the organisation last year through sponsored runs, cake baking and quiz nights - a sum that has been used to support its new adult in-patient unit.

The airport has raised a total of £167,000 for the non-profit since it launched as the Pasque Charity almost 20 years ago.

David White, Keech Hospice Care chief executive, commented: "Not only has this helped to raise some of the essential funds we need - it has also helped to increase awareness of our work across our community.

"Both of these things have been a great boost for the charity."

London Luton Airport has pledged £10,000 to the organisation in 2010 and staff are already planning fundraising efforts.

In related news, the airport announced the opening of a multi-faith prayer room yesterday (February 2nd).

The facility will be open around the clock and is located on the upper level of the departure lounge.
