Robin Hood Airport to increase night flightsBy Nick Jones.

Robin Hood Airport in Doncaster has won permission to operate extra night flights.

Doncaster planning committee voted for changes to be made to the strict conditions placed upon night-time services at the hub to allow different categories of aircraft to run around the clock.

Airport director Mike Morton announced that an average of two flights per week would take off and land at Doncaster between the hours of 23:00 and 07:00 GMT.

Mr Morton also commented that the move could create over 400 jobs for local people, as well as attracting more freight companies to the region.

"This news is another important step in making this airport even more attractive to prospective operators and to realise the potential it has in the air freight industry with the associated economic benefits this will bring for the region," he said.

The opinions of opposing residents would still be taken into account, the airport noted, after a number of people spoke out against the plans on the grounds they could affect the quality of life and sleeping patterns of locals.

Robin Hood Airport serves around one million passengers each year and is located seven miles from Doncaster and 25 miles from Sheffield.
