Luton Airport reopens after snow closureBy Mike Booth.

London Luton Airport has reopened after grinding to a halt due to heavy weather conditions, it has been reported.

Snowfall on Sunday morning (February 21st) saw the facility's runway become covered in snow, leading to the decision to shut the airport yesterday morning.

A flight from Geneva was redirected to London Gatwick Airport during the closure, while bosses were forced to cancel scheduled flights.

The runway was reopened at around 13:00 GMT with a backlog of delayed flights and some cancellations.

A spokesperson said: "Due to heavy snowfall, the runway at London Luton Airport is closed for snow clearing until approximately 13:00 GMT."

"Arriving and departing flights are subject to delay and or cancellation."

Passengers were advised to check the airport's website for updates on scheduled flights.

In other news, the airport expected some 100,000 travellers to pass through its gates over Valentine's weekend, with flights to destinations such as Barcelona, Madrid, Prague, Amsterdam and Budapest proving popular.
